Occidental has a mild climate year round. The weather right along the Pacific Coast tends to be cool and foggy in summertime, but as you travel further inland, it gets warmer and sunnier. Occidental is far enough inland to avoid the dreaded “June gloom” that keeps most oceanside towns under a shroud of fog most of the day. There is little to no rain May through September, with the rainy season beginning in late October. Flooding can be a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time. Temperatures are cool in winter but rarely go below the freezing mark. Fall is usually sunny and fair. Along the coast, autumn is the sunniest season, without the fog of summer or the rain of winter.
